Recently we accepted an offer to go to Indonesia for a moth in the middle of August to pastor a church called ICA Surabaya. We will be reaching out to this city, and traveling into some more remote spaces to start new churches, and even do a little medical missions as we just found out.
In just one week of going public with our trip many amazing and generous people have engaged the funding process to help us raise the needed money to buy our tickets and expenditures.
Church, there is something wrong with us if the most gifted people are leaving in order to make it to the top!
We love The Voice in the Huff family, but watching the first show in the third season tonight only took three performances to bring back a righteous indignation of what I felt last season. Let me say it again: Church, there is something wrong with us if the most gifted people are leaving in order to make it to the top!
I love all kinds of music (just check my Spotify playlists). So why would I seek out an alternative? One station I find myself listening to has the worst marketing line ever, kills me every time I hear it. “A positive music alternative.”
We don’t live in a world that wants the alternative to anything. We want the name brand, the best in quality and we want it now. We want the new technology, the new car and the new house in the new neighborhood. Culture is defined by what is driving it, and those who are in the center of culture have a huge impact. The heart of this approach of being an alternative is to create a “sub culture”. Not desiring to be about what influences the masses, but still do something similar. Sad things is the alternative is usually a bad version of the original. Continue reading “Alternative;” a bad approach for marketing.→
Last week I opened a box of Kix and poured a bowl full to begin my day. About ten bites in…surprise! I saw something out of place in my bowl amidst the circular corn goodness, it was a 4 inch long yellow twistie-tie. The yellow plastic kind with a wire interior. This was just the beginning of my “Kid’s tested mother approved” moment. (and let’s ignore the fact that I had already had 10 bites in this picture…I know I exceeded the one cup serving size suggestion!)
What should one do when in this peculiar position? Tweet about it,
in fact, this was an instagram moment linked to both Twitter and Facebook for instant life sharing photo goodness.
Seems like every week I engage in a conversation with someone about life, marketing, business and faith. Some of these are actually in person, but often the conversation begins with something that was projected via a talk I gave, blog post, tweet or comment on a facebook post. Either way, the key to recognize is our communication begins a conversation. We must understand that the one way communication of yesteryear is over Continue reading Join the conversation→
Before reading, choose not to be offended…just process this, get your brain thinking!
Obama made a big step today by sharing his “personal opinion”. It just so happens that his personal feelings actually do affect more than just him, but that is beside the point. His statement in support of same sex marriage was in response to a ruling yesterday in North Carolina defining marriage as between a man and a woman and upholding a constitutional ban on gay marriage.
As a bible believing Christian I am completely familiar with this subject, especially when pastoring a church called Open Life! I believe every word written in the bible and it leads me to understand Continue reading Leading by love vs. legislation→
Disneyland really got me thinking: My heart is exploding with inspiration lately. Truly can’t explain the passion that is welling up within me at every turn and it is not coming from the expected sources.
You would think the word, prayer and church would be the source of inspiration and transformation, but how about Disneyland, Movements like Kony2012, CharityWater.org and just taking note as we go through life.
